The Holy Fire descended on Great Saturday, the eve of Easter, at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (the Church of the Resurrection of Christ) in Jerusalem.

The descent of the Holy Fire takes place in the Edicule — a small chapel at the center of the Church of the Resurrection that enshrines the cave of the Holy Sepulchre, where the stone venerated by all Christians is located, beneath which lay the burial place of Jesus Christ. Throughout history, no one has managed to uncover the secret of the Holy Fire's descent, despite numerous attempts.
