Turkish prosecutors have formally requested a life sentence for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was arrested in absentia on genocide charges, Hürriyet reports. The request was submitted to Istanbul's 10th Court as part of an indictment against a group of senior Israeli officials.

The prosecution is seeking sentences ranging from life imprisonment to lengthy prison terms of between 1,102 and 4,596 years for 35 defendants. In addition to Netanyahu, those named in the indictment include Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, his predecessor Yoav Gallant, Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and senior military commanders including Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir and Navy Commander David Saar Salama.

In November 2025, Istanbul's chief prosecutor's office issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and 34 other senior Israeli officials. The criminal proceedings were initiated on charges of genocide, unlawful imprisonment, mistreatment, destruction of property, orchestrating mass bombardments of the Gaza Strip, and systematically obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
