During a phone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, the Kremlin reported.

The Iranian president assessed the Iran-US talks held on April 11 in Islamabad and expressed appreciation for Russia’s principled position, including on international platforms, aimed at de-escalating the situation.

Pezeshkian also thanked Russia for the humanitarian assistance provided to the Iranian people.

Putin emphasized his readiness to continue facilitating a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict and to provide mediation efforts in the interests of establishing a just and long-term peace in the Middle East. To this end, Russia will continue active contacts with all partners in the region.

While discussing current issues of bilateral cooperation, both sides confirmed their mutual commitment to further comprehensive strengthening of good-neighborly Russian-Iranian relations.

Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated Putin and all Orthodox Christians in Russia on the Easter holiday.
