The foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Russia issued a joint statement Wednesday.

Accordingly, based on the agreements reached by the presidents of the two countries in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, the two parties have settled the consequences of the crash of an AZAL passenger plane near Aktau, Kazakhstan on December 25, 2024.

The settlement includes the payment of compensation, too.

The aforesaid plane was hit in Russian airspace as a result of an unintentional operation of the Russian air defense system.

As per the joint statement, these measures once again prove that both sides are ready to deepen the mutually beneficial ties existing within the framework of the allied partnership.

Also, the parties expressed confidence that the development of ties based on respect and trust will contribute to the strengthening of good-neighborly relations, and for the benefit of both peoples.
