Lebanese President Joseph Aoun had a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday, the presidential office announced, without mentioning any possible contacts between Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Reuters reports.

US President Donald Trump had said that the leaders of Lebanon and Israel would meet on Thursday, which would be the first in decades.

However, two Lebanese officials said that the Lebanese embassy in Washington had informed the US administration that Aoun was not going to negotiate with Netanyahu.
