Syria and Turkey are holding talks on the creation of a free economic zone for joint industrial development in the city of Idlib and the governorate of the same name in Syria, the latter’s president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, said in an interview with the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency.

There are significant opportunities for regional integration between Syria and Turkey. Syria serves as a bridge between the East and the West. Currently, work is underway to create a Syrian-Turkish free economic zone in Idlib, where priority industries can be developed jointly, the Syrian leader noted.

According to him, Idlib is the most optimal region for such a project due to its proximity to the Turkish border and the concentration of main highways leading to Damascus, Aleppo, and Latakia.

Al-Sharaa added that the Syrian government, with the support of its Turkish partners, is currently actively investing in the reconstruction of the Arab republic's air and maritime infrastructure to expand its logistical capabilities.
