US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is extending the ceasefire with Iran, with no set deadline, giving diplomacy another chance to produce a deal, Axios reports.

According to sources, one of the reasons for such a decision is that American and Pakistani mediators are waiting for a response from Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

An Israeli source said that Khamenei is likely to respond on Wednesday.

"Trump is willing to give another three to five days of ceasefire to allow the Iranians to get their shit together," one US source briefed on the matter said, Axios adds. "It is not going to be open-ended."
