A French peacekeeper wounded in southern Lebanon on Saturday has died, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

According to Macron, another French soldier, Florian Montorio, was killed on the spot in the same attack in the village of Ghanduriyah.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) issued a preliminary statement, describing the incident as a premeditated attack. According to UNIFIL, non-state armed groups, in particular Hezbollah, are likely behind the attack.
