The Swedish government is considering introducing fuel rationing in light of the “significant impact” of the war with Iran on the country’s economy, ntv reports.

“We are prepared for this and will announce it at the appropriate time if necessary,” said Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

According to the prime minister, the war’s impact on the Swedish economy has recently intensified — initially described as having “limited consequences,” it has now become “significant,” with risks of rising inflation and slower economic growth.

Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson referred to “the worst energy crisis in a very, very long time.” She said that in the event of a prolonged war, “fuel rationing could be considered, but initially we will issue recommendations for economical fuel use.” She added that public transport should be prioritized.
