Armenia and Azerbaijan are among the top 10 countries with the highest military spending relative to their GDP, as per a fact sheet by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
Accordingly, in Armenia this indicator was 6.1%, in Azerbaijan—6.5%, in Russia—7.5%, in Israel—7.8%, and in Ukraine—40%.
The largest increase in military spending in 2025 was recorded in the countries of the Middle East (3.8% of GDP). They are followed by Europe (3.2%), Africa (1.8%), Asia and Oceania (1.6%), and the Americas (1.2%).
And the sharpest increase in the military spending on the budget over the year was observed in Ukraine (+5.6 percentage points), followed by Azerbaijan (+1.4), then Norway and Denmark (both +1.0).
