Hraparak daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: While the Armenian public is guessing with what and how [Azerbaijani president] Ilham Aliyev will support his friend [Armenian PM] Nikol Pashinyan on the threshold of the [June 7 parliamentary] elections [in Armenia], and making predictions that perhaps Azerbaijan will stage a border incident so that the CC [i.e.
Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party and its parliamentary faction] members will terrorize Armenian voters with war and extract votes, it turns out that Aliyev has found a better solution. According to our information, Aliyev wants to return 2 groups of [Armenian] captives [in Azerbaijan] to Armenia before the elections.
There will be 8 people in one group, 3 in the other. Excluding the military-political leadership of Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)], 11 of the 19 [remaining] captives, most of whom was suffering in [Azerbaijani capital] Baku prisons since 2020, will return to the homeland.
Of course, there will be great joy in Armenia, and Aliyev hopes that with this move he will make the re-election of his beloved partner, Nikol Pashinyan, inevitable.
The fact that the topic of the return of the captives was agreed with Nikol Pashinyan is also evidenced by the Artsakh leadership not being included in the list of returnees. After all, their return could change domestic political climate in Armenia and raise the broken spirit of our people.
