PARIS. – France’s Constitutional Council had prejudiced decision with majority of its members and went beyond its authority by making political decision, the chair of the European office of Hay Dat Hilda Choboian told Armenian News-NEWS.am commenting on the Council’s decision to recognize the bill criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide anti-constitutional.

She stated that it is the highest body in France to appeal to, and they are going to appeal to European organizations, as well as run the main work inside France for the state to shift position towards the issue, she added.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has earlier informed that the Council discussed the bill criminalizing the denial of genocides on Tuesday and recognized it anti-constitutional.

The bill proposed by Valerie Boyer was adopted by the French National Assembly and ratified by the Senate on Jan. 23. However, a group of MPs and senators appealed the bill to the Constitutional Council on Jan. 31.
