The Iranian, Turkish, and Azerbaijani FMs’—Ali Akbar Salehi, Ahmet Davutoglu, and Elmar Mammadyarov—meeting in Nakhichevan, Azerbaijan, on Wednesday came to a close with the adoption of the “Nakhichevan Statement.”

The statement defends “the commonality of the  cultural heritage, and the historical roots and spiritual values of the three countries, and their dedication to neighborly and friendly relations.”    

Also, the ministers confirmed their intentions on holding consultations with respect to regional and international matters, Kavkazskiy Uzel informs.

The parties confirmed the importance of the Karabakh issue’s speedy resolution, “on the basis of the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and respect of internationally recognized state borders.” 

Iran, Turkey, and Azerbaijan confirmed that “they will not offer their territories for carrying out hostile actions against each other.” 

The parties also intend on discussing the possibility of connecting the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and the Nakhichevan-Julfa-Tabriz railways. 

Iranian, Turkish, and Azerbaijani FMs’ next meeting is scheduled to be held in Van, Turkey.
