The Turkish Assyrian’s first newspaper, entitled Sabro—which means “hope,” in Assyrian,—is issued in Turkey.  

The paper is published in Turkish and Assyrian. It is a monthly, for now, but once the financial matters are resolved, it will become a weekly, the Turkish Bianet News Agency informs.

One of Sabro’s main objectives will be to speak about the Assyrians, who live in Turkey and about whom very little is known, and to raise the everyday issues of the Assyrian community.     

It is also noted that approximately 25 thousand Assyrians currently live in Turkey, and their majority lives in Istanbul. But close to five-thousand Assyrians live in the country’s southeastern Mardin, Sirnak, and Batman provinces.
