The defense team of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan is awaiting the final report of UN experts regarding the numerous violations of their client's rights. This was stated by the Archbishop's lawyer, Tatevik Soghoyan, in a conversation with journalists near the courthouse before the next hearing in the "18 Righteous" case.

The lawyer said that 6 UN human rights experts have examined the matter. They were provided with data concerning numerous violations permitted by the authorities, the political persecution of Galstanyan and others, the use of anti-terrorism legislation for political purposes, attacks against the Church, and other similar phenomena.

According to Soghoyan, the 6 experts concluded that if all of this is true, then we are dealing with the grossest violations of human rights, and with the fact that Armenia is not fulfilling its basic obligations. The lawyer noted that the experts paid particular attention to the incident of June 12, 2024, emphasizing the unacceptability of the use of the "Zarya" special device and minimum-vulnerability weapons, as well as the absence of a proper investigation. The experts' reaction was harsh: violence was used against peaceful protesters, and opposition figures were arrested for expressing political views.

According to Tatevik Soghoyan, the authorities' responses cannot be considered satisfactory: "We are awaiting the final report of the UN experts' assessments."

Asked whether this report could serve as grounds for closing the case, the lawyer stated that the authorities should have already released the people, provided compensation, and offered an apology.
