A new president of the Constitutional Court Armenia was not elected, the candidates did not garner the necessary votes, and new elections will be held, candidate for Constitutional Court president Edgar Shatiryan told reporters.

“Two candidates for the position of the Court president were nominated: Mr. [Vladimir] Vardanyan and I. According to the results of the first round of voting, none of the candidates for the position of the Court president received the necessary number of votes.

A second round was held, according to the results of which the position of the Court president was also not elected. The election is considered invalid. New elections for the president [of the Constitutional Court Armenia] will be held within the established timeframes,” said Shatiryan.

When asked whether he was nominated or self-nominated, Shatiryan said that his candidacy was nominated by Judge Davit Khachaturyan, whereas Vladimir Vardanyan had nominated himself.
