UNESCO World Heritage Centre Deputy Director Jyoti Hosagrahar said she cannot comment on the cases of destruction of Armenian churches, as she is not aware of them. Hosagrahar on Monday told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am during an international meeting at the Matenadaran—the Armenian institute and museum of ancient manuscripts—dedicated to nature and culture.
Hosagrahar stated this in response to the remark that there are many reports about the destruction of Armenian churches in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the Armenian society is concerned about the conservation of Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh, and when asked how UNESCO responds to this situation.
And to the remark that there are numerous reports about cases of vandalism, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre deputy director simply responded: “Sorry, I have to go.”
