YEREVAN. – An unprecedented number of policemen gathered near the building of the Armenian government on Thursday morning. The entrance is cordoned by officers of special forces.
The deputy head of Yerevan police Valery Osipyan is at the site, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports.
Asked about the reasons for the police presence, Osipyan said they came “to protect public order and carry out maintenance work.” As to the number of police officers, deputy chief of police said the number is always proportionate to the protest actions.
The number of police officers is probably explained by a protest against the law on pensions planned for 12:00.
