YEREVAN. – Armenian president must either go to Vilnius or hand in his resignation, head of opposition party said as he started a sit-in near the president’s residence in Yerevan.

Ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan and his supporters reached the building at 12:00, chanting slogans and carrying flags of Armenia.

They were carrying banners with “No to forced USSR”, “No to Customs Union”, “Vilnius or Resignation” inscriptions.

“Unless he [President] goes to Vilnius, it means he chooses resignation,” Hayrikyan added.

Hayrikyan, the Chairman of the opposition National Self-Determination Union, plans to hold a three-day sit-in near the building of president’s residence.

“If it turns out that Serzh Sargsyan is going to Vilnius, I will stop the sit-in,” he emphasized.
