YEREVAN. – After waiting outside for about thirty minutes and throwing eggs at the windows of an Artsakhbank branch in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, five from the owners of the apartments, which Tonus Construction Company had built in Yerevan, were received by the bank representatives.     

As a result of the talks, the bank representatives promised the apartment owners that they will meet with each proprietor on January 16, 2014, and discuss the situation. 

“Everything must be pursuant to the law. We will not agree to the $900 they offer; we prefer that our home is taken at $850 [per square meter],” a protestor told reporters and the other swindled apartment owners, following the talk with the bank representatives.    

The cheated apartment owners on Thursday gathered across the Government of Armenia Building. Subsequently, they marched toward the aforementioned Artsakhbank branch to demand their apartments. Arriving at the branch, however, the demonstrators found the bank doors closed.  

To note, a group of people are unable to enter their own apartments in Yerevan. Tonus Construction Company had sold the apartments of a new building to these residents. Subsequently, however, the company put these apartments as collateral at Artsakhbank. Once the building was constructed, Artsakhbank seized the apartments, Tonus Construction Company was declared bankrupt, whereas the people that had purchased these apartments were left empty-handed. But they do not believe that Artsakhbank was uninformed about this swindle by Tonus Construction Company.
