YEREVAN. – Several hundred employees of the Nairit chemical rubber plant of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan assembled Thursday outside the Office of the President.

They had come to submit a letter, and to demand a full payment of their due salaries and an end to being sent dismissal notices.

The plant workers have started receiving notices, according to which their employment contracts with Nairit will be severed as of February 6, 2015. They also informed that new work contracts will be signed with solely 500 employees.

The Nairit workers do not believe that the authorities will make good on their promise and pay the employees’ overdue salaries, which total Armenian drams equivalent to approximately $15 million.

These employees’ unpaid wages are paid off on the account of the profits of the two state-owned energy companies: The Yerevan Thermal Power Plant, and the Vorotan Hydro Power Plant.
