YEREVAN. – A resolution was adopted at the annual rally initiated by the Armenian National Congress (ANC) on the occasion of Human Rights Day.

The resolution read out by head of ANC faction Levon Zurabyan is related to the problems of human rights protection in Armenia: election system, tragic events of March 1, 2008, violation of economic freedom and presence of political prisoners.

Speaking about political prisoners, head of ANC faction mentioned Shant Harutyunyan and his friends who were detained and sentenced as a result of clashes last November. However, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian added the names of actor Vardan Petrosyan and Karabakh war veteran Volodya Avetisyan.

Zurabyan also said that the national movement will soon present a program of joint actions, including a list of events, the purpose of which is a complete change of government and special elections. The rally was followed by a march.
