YEREVAN. - The ‘No to Plunder’ initiative participants have launched a sit-in in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue, demanding to cancel the decision on electricity price hike. (photos)

Prior to this, they were approached by Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Ashot Karapetyan, who also tried to persuade them to accept Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan’s offer and meet with the president being represented by a group of 3-4 to discuss their demands. But the protesters declared they have nothing to discuss with the president and that they have only one demand, namely to cancel the decision on raising the electricity price by 6,93 AMD.

Right now Baghramyan Avenue is crowded with thousands of protesters, who are going to march to presidential residence, 26 Baghramyan Street. Their movement is hindered by the thick wall of police officers. Baghramyan Avenue and Demirchyan Street are also filled with water cannons and military cars, as well as barbed wire.  The police officers wear bullet-proof vests and are armed with shields and rubber sticks.
