Queen Elizabeth II along with her husband Prince Philippe attended a memorial service to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Japan’s surrender and the end of the World War II, The Telegraph reports.  

Heir of the British Crown Prince Charles of Wales with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was also present at the military parade in Whitehall, which started with the wreath laying ceremony, Gazeta reports.

On 15 August 1945, the Japanese Emperor Hirohito announced that his country was no longer able to continue the war. The Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed aboard the U.S. battleship “Missouri” on 2 September 1945.
