YEREVAN. - Three citizens detained from Yerevan’s Liberty Square as a result of an incident today have been released, Armenian police representatives told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Earlier, Armenia’s Gyumri city citizen and freedom fighter Yuri Atoyan, who takes part in around-the-clock rally against constitutional amendments inin Armenia, told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent that unknown persons had attacked him, beaten him up and offended him. 

Areg Kyureghyan, brother of activist Hayk Kyureghyan, had intervened, following which he and two young men who had sparked the incident, were detained by the police in the square.

Yura Atoyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent that the young men are allegedly the supporters of General Manvel Grigoryan, who is the president of Yerkrapah Volunteer Union (YVU).

Later, Yura Atoyan was taken to the police department to testify.  

According to the “United Opposition Headquarters” of the New Armenia Public Salvation Front, the attackers were allegedly a group consisting of 12-15 members from Gyumri and Etchmiadzin branches of YVU, led by Gyumri branch President Yura Alexanyan.
