YEREVAN. – The funeral of police officer Gagik Mkrtchyan, who was severely wounded during the exchange of fire at the Yerevan police station which an armed group had taken over in July and who died 27 days later, was held Monday in the capital city of Armenia.
Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan, several other senior police officers, National Assembly Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov as well as Mkrtchyan’s relatives and friends were on hand at the interment.
Officer Mkrtchyan had sustained severe gunshot wounds, and he was being treated at the intensive care unit of a hospital in Yerevan.
He was 45 years old, and he is survived by his six-year-old son.
