At least 16 people are abducted from restaurant in the Mexican beach resort of Puerto Vallarta early on Monday. According to eyewitnesses, around 1a.m. local time a group of armed people broke into the restaurant, bundled the victims into SUVs and sped away, The Guardian reported.
Criminal proceedings were instituted into this case, investigation is underway. Law enforcers also wanted four women who managed to escape from the kidnappers. The nationalities and identities of the stolen people are not reported. Locals and tourists are urged to keep calm.
According to law enforcement authorities, the incident is not related to the actions of international terrorist groups but most likely is a showdown between local criminal gangs. Similar abductions in Mexico are not a rarity.
