YEREVAN. – At least our society has long been ready for peace.
Hovhannes Igityan, an MP from the majority “My Step” Faction, on Thursday told the abovementioned to reporters in the new National Assembly of Armenia. He noted this while commenting on the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ statement with respect to preparing the societies of Armenia and Azerbaijan for peace.
“Had they not been ready [for peace], both the Armenia side and the NKR (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic; the Republic of Artsakh) side would not have signed the cease-fire agreement in 1994,” Igityan stressed.
The MP added that the provision on preparing the societies for peace comes from the agreements that were reached in Vienna.
Asked whether Armenia’s new authorities insist on the need to implement the agreements that were reached in Vienna and Saint Petersburg, Hovhannes Igityan stated as follows, in particular: “All meetings are aimed at the implementation of the Vienna agreements. Even this meeting [Wednesday in Paris, between Armenia’s acting FM, Azerbaijan’s FM, and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs] was called to create a climate for negotiations.”
