YEREVAN. – At its Cabinet session on Thursday, the Government of Armenia adopted the draft decision on designating citizen’s day in the country.

As per the draft, the bill on making a supplement to the law on holidays and memorial days specifies that the Day of the Citizen of the Republic of Armenia shall be marked on the last Saturday of April.

In the cases when May 1 coincides with Saturday, the last Sunday of April shall be celebrated as the Day of the Citizen of the Republic of Armenia.

And Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan noted that if April 24 coincides with the last Saturday of April, the Day of the Citizen of the Republic of Armenia shall be marked on April 25.

Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan presented the matter, and noted that the need to adopt this draft was conditioned by the unprecedented political situation that occurred in Armenia in April of the year past.

As per the reasoning behind this proposal, the latter will enable to establish Day of the Citizen of the Republic of Armenia because of the nationwide movement by thousands of Armenian citizens who have opened a new chapter in Armenian history.
