YEREVAN. – Human rights protection is one of the most important goals that the democratic government, democratic society, and the country can have in the modern world. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned this in his speech during today’s conference at the National Assembly, and dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Armenia's institute of Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman).

"This institute has been established in the Republic of Armenia and has had an undeniable contribution to the protection of human rights," he noted in his speech. “[But] the first three human rights defenders [of the country] did not hold office until the end of their term and resigned.

We at least hope that as a result of the velvet revolution in Armenia in 2018, new conditions and a new environment have been created for the activities of the Human Rights Defender.

I, myself, and the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the National Assembly attach great importance to the activities of the Human Rights Defender in the Republic of Armenia.

Our work since the revolution is first and foremost aimed at protecting human rights.

In Armenia we have a huge agenda in terms of human rights protection.

Important institutional issues, which for many years seemed unsolvable, have been resolved."
