YEREVAN. – It is not right to make a comparison with the data of the number of people infected in one day because the European countries you mentioned have gone through hell and concluded. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned this at Friday’s National Assembly debates on extending the state of emergency in Armenia for another month, and referring to the question by Iveta Tonoyan, a member of the opposition Prosperous Armenia faction.

Tonoyan had noted that although the Prime Minister says that Armenia has very good indicators—even compared to the indicators of the most developed countries, now about ten times more people in Armenia were getting infected with COVID-19 in one day than in about a dozen European countries combined.

"European countries have overcome the hottest period of hell—with many human casualties. When I say that we are going through hell, the life of every citizen is unique, priceless for us. And when we have a human loss every day, it is hell for us,” said Pashinyan.

As for the question of whether the guilty will be held accountable for the deaths registered due to lack of hospital beds in Armenia, the Prime Minister answered: "In many super-developed countries of the world, there have been cases when a person has not been able to be taken inside the hospital. They took him to the nearest garden in the hospital, under a tree, on a bench, and the man died there. You will not find such emphases in those countries of the world, ‘Are you going to investigate and punish the culprit for that man's death?’

I will say the contrary. What is happening in our healthcare system should not have happened because every day there is an increase being made in both regular and intensive-care bed spaces.”
