Following the joint statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on the cessation of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)] conflict zone, the Armenian society did not support the opposition rallies and calls for a change of power in the country. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this in an interview with TASS.

"We have internal political tension," he admitted, "but the truth is that the calls made by the opposition have not received a wide response among the Armenian society. I think that the issue of power, which was formed by the people, can be solved only by the will of the people. The fact is that the calls voiced by the opposition do not receive the support of the Armenian society. "

Pashinyan, moreover, noted that many people and he personally do not like the current situation, but there is an understanding among the public that there was no other choice. "Honestly, I am not so satisfied either, we are all dissatisfied with the situation that has been created at us. But we must realize what alternatives we have. We must work so that the situation does not worsen, but stabilizes and improves," he said.

"The Armenian society agrees that in the situation when that document was signed, there was no real alternative that would have been better for us. In other words, in my opinion, in my conviction, there is just such a perception among the Armenian society of the document that was signed,”  the Prime Minister continued. “It is another question that we still have to analyze, understand, and answer questions: why did all this happen and why did we reach such a situation? But the fact that there were no alternatives at the time of November 9, I think there is such a perception of the situation in the Armenian society."

In response to a question about the possibility of early parliamentary elections called by his opponents, Pashinyan stressed the urgent need for Armenia now is to focus on other issues, first of all on political and economic stability and security.

"Now the priority task of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and of all political forces must be the restoration of full stability and security of the Republic of Armenia. I mean not only internal security, but also external. I have published a ‘roadmap’ for a period of six months, and in the next six months we must work on stabilizing the situation. After that, we will consult with the public, the people, the political forces, and make a decision on further events and further steps."
