YEREVAN. – Armenia’s experts in anti-Azerbaijani propaganda are protesting in front of the National Security Service (NSS), and in support of Ara Saghatelyan, former Chief of Staff of the National Assembly (NA).

It became known Tuesday that Saghatelyan's lawyers have applied to the Human Rights Defender.

On February 19, NSS officers searched the offices of former NA Chief of Staff Ara Saghatelyan, analyst and ex-MP Karen Bekaryan, Azerbaijani Studies specialist Anzhela Elibegova and constitutional law expert Gohar Meloyan, confiscated their telephones and computers, and then apprehended them.

Elibegova and Meloyan were later released after refusing to testify, whereas Bekaryan, Saghatelyan, and citizens Mher Avagyan and Aram Sargsyan were detained, then petitions were filed with the court to arrest them.

Karen Bekaryan and Mher Avagyan, however, were released. The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan denied the respective petition of the NSS, recording the absence of a reasonable doubt.

By the way, the court considered the detention of Ara Saghatelyan illegal, too, stated that the respective reasonable doubt was not confirmed in the accusation against Saghatelyan for violating the rules of information during the recent Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war, but, nonetheless, it ruled that he be arrested.

To note, that Ara Saghatelyan has played an active role in the information war against Azerbaijan for many years, informing the international press about the war crimes committed by that country.
