During all the meetings in the European Parliament, the main agenda was Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)], the process of Artsakh negotiations, Armenia's security; Armenia's internal political matters were also touched upon. Opposition MP Ishkhan Saghatelyan, who is also coordinator of Armenia’s Resistance Movement, told this to a press conference Monday—and regarding his recent aforesaid meetings.
Saghatelyan noted that during all these meetings he raised also the issue of Armenian prisoners of war still being held in Azerbaijan.
"The interests of Armenia and Artsakh are not properly represented in international organizations, particularly in the European Parliament, and during those meetings it became obvious that the parliamentary diplomacy of Armenia and the foreign ministry of Armenia do not properly represent and protect the interests of Armenia, Artsakh, and the Armenian people," Saghatelyan said.
He emphasized that the assertion of the Armenian authorities that there is an international demand and consensus to lower the status bar of Artsakh is a lie.
"At least in my impression, such a demand does not exist. All the meetings that I had were not [with] random people; they were officials forming an opinion, expressing a position and point of view on the issue of Armenia. There is no clear and emphatic demand to lower the bar," he said.
Saghatelyan noted that there is a demand to achieve peace, he had said that they are not against the peace agenda, but peace cannot come at the cost of the Armenians’ dispossession of their homeland.
"We have said [that] forced peace cannot bring stability in the region; these justifications were very understandable for them," said Saghatelyan.
