Armenia should do its best to delay the process of negotiations and signing the document, because in case of repeated aggression, we should not expect Azerbaijan's actions to change even after the provisions and signing of the document, Yervand Tarverdyan, chairman of the United Armenia Party, told NEWS.am.

"The world is in a very tense state; the superpower leaders are solving their problems, and they have no time to think about a third country; at least, there is no rush. One cannot be on an equal footing in forcing the signing of a document. For me, the position of China, which clearly states that there can be no resolution of the Artsakh issue without a settlement, and the position of Iran, which states that there should not be significant changes in the region, are acceptable to me. I think that our interests derive from these approaches," he said.

Tarverdyan did not rule out that Western countries interested in signing a peace treaty actually have other goals.

"Perhaps the West is concerned that there are Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh providing security. The consolidated West wants to provoke discontent in any state bordering the Russian Federation, so the French president says that the September aggression was carried out with the knowledge of Russia. We must unite our interests and use our good relations with both France and Russia to strengthen our position and be protected. Unfortunately, the policies of small countries are determined by the policies of superpowers," Tarverdyan said.

He does not consider the steps taken by the authorities to solve acute problems to be sufficient. According to him, the inadequacy of the authorities is evident in the decisions made in all spheres.

"It is a wrong approach when we ask some state to come and protect us. The authorities should unite the society, and not say that we do not have the resources, even if we really do not have them. You have to unite people around the idea that our defense is within the country, that we have to fight for our land and water if necessary. You have to get rid of the loser mentality. If you approach any document from the point of view of a loser, you won't succeed," Tarverdyan stressed.
