In 2023, it is planned to ensure a significant reduction of the national debt against the GDP. Minister of Finance Tigran Khachatryan said this in the National Assembly, at Monday’s joint session of parliamentary standing committees, during the debates on the draft 2023 state budget.

According to the minister, the longer the debt and its repayment remain in a reliable climate, the greater the probability that all the tasks set before the government can be carried out in the medium term.

"Uncertainties, as is known, are more than many; and the situation this year is its confirmation. We must consider all possible processes. This will enable managing the national debt in such a way that various processes do not create any risk for the implementation of the government's tasks in the medium term," said Khachatryan.

The minister recalled that according to the results of 2021, Armenia’s national debt against the country’s GDP was at a high level and made 60.3 percent.

"During the implementation of the government's action plan, we need to achieve that this indicator does not exceed 50 percent of the GDP," said the finance minister.
