YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Wednesday visited the exhibition of Armenian Jewelers’ Association (AJA). The event, which will be held between September 21 and 23, is devoted to 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.    

The exhibition will feature around 65 jewelry companies, with Armenian jewelers from numerous countries. President Sargsyan examined the displayed items and AJA’s chairman Gagik Gevorgyan gave information on them.    

During a briefing with news reporters, Gevorgyan noted that AJA’s jewelers comprise approximately 7 percent of the world’s jewelry industry. “Constituting 0.1 percent of the world’s population, we [the Armenians] comprise 7 percent of the industry,” he stated.     

In Gevorgyan’s words, the products of Armenian jewelers are not only hand-crafted but are also a product of heart and soul, and that is what distinguishes them from the works of foreign jewelers.    

Within the framework of the exhibition, a forum will also be held, whose objective is to show the achievements of modern-day Armenian jewelry, strengthen ties between the world’s Armenian jewelers, and discuss avenues toward integrating Armenia’s jewelry industry with the international jewelry community.

Gagik Gevorgyan also informed that the exhibition is planned to be held ever year and in different countries.
