The Anti-Corruption Court on Friday ruled that Armen Ashotyan, vice-chairman of the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia and ex-Minister of Education and Science, be placed under arrest for two months.

Law enforcement officers had detained Ashotyan on Thursday.

Another charge has been brought against him. Ashotyan is accused of organizing embezzlement and violating the terms of the restraining order.

According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, the aforesaid is due to the fact that Ashotyan had attempted to send the lawyers chosen by him to the questioning with the witnesses and the accused in order to learn about the content of the questioning.

The criminal case involving Armen Ashotyan is related to Mikayel Narimanyan, former Rector of Yerevan State Medical University.
