The summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has started at the Igora ski resort—not far from Saint Petersburg—in Russia's Leningrad Region. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his colleagues from the Eurasian "five" are participating.
The sessions of this summit will be held in narrow and extended formats.
Also, the leaders of the member countries will approve the main directions of the international activities of the EAEU and its budget for 2025.
More than 20 important documents are expected to be signed as a result of the summit. Among them is the decision to give Iran the status of an observer state in the EAEU.
From January 1, 2025, the post of EAEU president will pass from Armenia to Belarus. Therefore, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is expected present the priorities of his country’s presidency in this organization next year.
