The obligations, rights, and intentions of Armenia and Russia are clearly stipulated, signed and ratified, and no one has canceled them. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Armenian capital Yerevan on Wednesday—and answering the question of whether Armenia can be expected to search for new strategic partners in Europe.

“Are we [i.e. Armenia] going to revise [our] allied relations with Russia? I say directly: no. Our obligations, rights, and intentions are clearly stipulated, signed and ratified, and no one has canceled them,” Mirzoyan stated.

At the same time, however, the Armenian FM noted the concern of the Armenian side that the planned measures and mechanisms with Russia have not always and not fully worked.

“But that is another matter, one can discuss the effectiveness of the mechanisms, but there is no question of their cancellation,” Mirzoyan added.

“As for the CSTO, Armenia’s assessment is not a secret. We are not satisfied with the [CSTO] response to specific events, and [therefore] have frozen our activities in the organization. I will not draw far-reaching conclusions, but I will agree with Mr. Lavrov that the discussions are constructive,” the Armenian FM noted.
