We received the call at 11:33. Initially two fire brigades were sent to the alarm. Then, based on the situation, the call was raised to the level of "1 BIS," two more fire brigades were involved. In total, four fire brigades were involved. This was stated by the senior instructor of the firefighting and rescue operations organization department of the Yerevan rescue department, Major Muradyan, as he spoke with reporters Tuesday regarding the fire that broke out in the Sari Tagh neighborhood of the Armenian capital city.

“The fire spread from the grassy area to the forest area. The spread of the fire was prevented by our forces and the efforts of our employees with four fire brigades. We have consolidated and isolated the spread of the fire. The trees as such were not damaged, mainly the grassy area burned, the spread was immediately prevented in small parts of the forest. At 13:58, the fire was already isolated,” added Muradyan.

Referring to the information that the fire was approaching the residential houses of Sari Tagh, the rescuer said: “Yes, there were alarms. At that moment they contacted me, informed that there was nothing dangerous. At that moment we were already taking actions so that [the fire] would not reach the houses. It’s just that our people, you know, immediately panic. But the forces and resources were deployed in that part, they were already taking actions.

The general fire started from below. Its start was from that part of Sari Tagh, it rose towards the TV tower, but we didn’t let it rise that high, we didn’t let it enter the forest area. It spread with left and right wings towards the newly built buildings, but we didn’t let [it] reach there. It didn’t rise to the [TV] studio area.

At this point, it can be said it's almost completely extinguished. We have one area where there are fire smoked that don't pose a threat."
