Armenia’s accession to the European Union (EU) is an imitational process, said Robert Kocharyan, the second President of Armenia, during his press conference Tuesday.
According to Kocharyan, certain criteria must be met in order to join the EU, and regulations have been developed to that end.
“Nevertheless, they [i.e., the current Armenian authorities] are making some declarative statements, pretending that they are carrying out active work,” Kocharyan added.
In the opinion of Armenia’s second president, it is difficult to see any rational explanation behind such actions.
“Membership in the European Union is not visible. It is merely a desire and an imitation. At the same time, steps are being taken toward distancing from Russia. Why are they [i.e., the current Armenian authorities] doing this? I myself don’t know,” Robert Kocharyan added.
