During these 47 years, despite some hostile acts and obstacles, the Islamic Republic of Iran has recorded great achievements in the economic infrastructure, science, technology, culture and art, as well as in the defense sector, which has placed Iran among the world leaders in some domains. Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami stated this during a ceremony dedicated to the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, the National Day of Iran, in the Armenian capital Yerevan Thursday.

Recalling that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the independence of Armenia, the Iranian ambassador said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Armenia. Of course, the friendship and ties between the peoples of Iran and Armenia have a history of thousands of years, and what we see today is a manifestation of the continuation of that historical, cultural, and civilizational bond. The 150,000-strong Armenian community in Iran and dozens of important Armenian holy sites in Iran testify to this inextricable bond.”

“The history of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia has witnessed a year full of fruitful achievements. The year 2025 was full of positive events in the historical, brotherly, and strategic relations between the two countries. Important mutual visits of officials from the two countries took place, the culmination of which was the visit of Iranian President Dr. [Masoud] Pezeshkian to Yerevan in August 2025.

Over the past year, important achievements have been recorded, such as the signing of 12 memorandums of understanding on cooperation during the Iranian president’s visit to Yerevan. The holding of meetings, political consultations, the development of defense relations at a high level, mutual support in international organizations and platforms, the development of a new document of the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the security sector, the holding of the 13th session of the joint commission, the recognition of the Iranian company as the winner of the tender for the grand Kajaran Tunnel project, the presence of a 70-member Armenian business delegation at the Iran Expo 25 exhibition, as well as the preparation of a comprehensive document on strategic cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia, which we hope will be signed during the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Honorable Mr. [Nikol] Pashinyan, to Tehran in 2026," added the Iranian diplomat.

Shirgholami noted that in the first eleven months of 2025, the amount of trade between Iran and Armenia, excluding the defense sector, had reached $698 million, and the vision of reaching $3 billion set by the leaders of the two countries is still ahead.

“Today, relations between Iran and Armenia have entered a phase of maturity, and mutual trust between the leaders of the two countries is the main capital of these relations and strategic partnership. We plan to institutionalize them within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership, so that both the scale and depth of cooperation within the framework of an operational roadmap are greatly expanded,” said the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
