The Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Spain has officially opened in Yerevan in a festive ceremony — guests were welcomed in the finest Spanish traditions, with music, refreshments and a celebratory atmosphere befitting the country that gave the world flamenco and paella.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Armenia Ricardo Martinez Vasquez delivered a welcoming address. He noted that it is a great honour for the Spanish side to open a consulate in a country carrying millennia of history and culture.

The Ambassador emphasised that relations between the two countries are strong and that the two peoples share common values and principles. He also paid special tribute to Honorary Consul Ashot Parsyan, who founded the Spanish Centre in Yerevan 22 years ago, where children could learn Spanish free of charge — what began as a modest initiative has since grown into a genuine cultural bridge between the two nations.

Speaking with NEWS.am, Honorary Consul Ashot Parsyan said that the consulate's core mission goes beyond supporting Spanish citizens in Armenia — it is equally focused on strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two countries. "We will strive to raise Spain's profile in our country, serving as an actively working bridge between our two peoples. The consulate has its own backstory: I am the founder and president of the Spanish Centre in Armenia, which has been operating for over 20 years, deepening ties with the Spanish-speaking world. We will continue that same mission," he said.

The restaurant Olé is already up and running on the consulate's premises, welcoming everyone who wishes to explore Spanish traditions and cuisine. The building also houses Centro Hispano and museum exhibits offering visitors a glimpse into Spanish culture, with themed events held there on a regular basis.
