WASHINGTON. – Warning on possible threat against the U.S. citizens in Armenia is conditioned primarily with the geographical situation of Armenia and the fact of being close to the region where terroristic acts are held, the U.S. State Department told Armenian News-NEWS.am commenting on information about why Armenia is included in the list of countries where the U.S. citizens may possibly be in danger.

The inclusion of Armenia is not conditioned to any other special reason and is not against Armenia but is first of all done due to geographical situation. According to the Department of State, it is a standard procedure and presently over 50 U.S. diplomatic missions abroad issued similar warnings.

Earlier the US Embassy released a statement that in light of recent events at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and U.S. Consulate in Libya, the U.S. Department of State reminds U.S. citizens to remain vigilant.

“All U.S. citizens in Armenia are cautioned to maintain good situational awareness and should stay current with media coverage of local events and should remain particularly vigilant in the near term to their personal safety,” the Embassy statement reads.

As it was earlier reported, the warnings, posted on the embassies' websites, do not report any specific threat to Americans but note that demonstrations can become violent.
