YEREVAN. – Armenia may host a training center for peacekeepers that will be created within the framework of bilateral cooperation with U.S.

The center may get a certificate and the status of an international center, Armenian defense ministry representative Levon Ayvazyan said at a press conference marking the beginning of the NATO week in Armenia.

The head of the defense department recalled that the first stage of construction was completed this year. There are several stages before completion, including technical equipment. However, next year, it is planned to hold exercises at the center to assess the capabilities of peacekeepers in accordance with NATO training standards.

“The purpose of the center is to have a national training center for peacekeepers in accordance with international standards, because training is still conducted abroad,” he noted, adding that Armenia is leading in terms of participation in the missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo.
