YEREVAN. – The normalization process carries important benefits for Turkey and Armenia, as well as the wider Caucasus region, the U.S. embassy in Armenia said.
The statement came in response to the Armenian News-NEWS.am written inquiry regarding the decision to annul Armenia-Turkey protocols.
“We note President Sargsyan’s announcement that Armenia is formally withdrawing from the protocols it signed with Turkey in October 2009 in Zurich. President Sargsyan also made clear that Armenia remains committed to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations in the future without preconditions. We encourage both sides to keep the door open to pursuing reconciliation and normalization. The normalization process carries important benefits for Turkey and Armenia, as well as the wider Caucasus region,” the statement reads.
Last week President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree to terminate the process of signing of Armenia-Turkey protocols.
