Over 200 drivers from Gyumri are holding a protest action at the Bavra checkpoint on the Armenian-Georgian border, Chairman of “Asparez” club Levon Barseghyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, representatives of the Armenian National Congress and “Heritage” party, as well as leader of People’s Party Tigran Karapetyan are taking part in the protest.

Barseghyan said over 60 policemen from Road Police and regional police department are following the protest action.

Dozens of cars carrying Georgian license plates blocked a section of the Gyumri-Yerevan highway. Levonyan said the police cordoned off the area in the morning to stop angry protests by local car owners against the abolition of a legal loophole that allowed them to pay significantly lower import taxes.

Such protest actions are also held in Stepanavan and Tashir towns.
