Armenia considers Russia its strategic partner, it’s the priority of our foreign policy, which is reflected on the Armenian government’s five-year plan which was recently approved by the authorities of our country.

President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, said the aforementioned in Moscow, speaking before Russian senators, according to Parlamentskaya Gazeta.

The Armenian parliament speaker’s speech was a first in the history of the plenary session of the Federation Council of Russia.

Mirzoyan noted that he intends to continue the discourse with Russian colleagues, and to strengthen and develop it at the level of interparliamentary cooperation.

“It’s impossible to drive a wedge between the relations of our [two] countries,” he added, in particular. “They [the relations] are beyond political conjuncture.”

The head of the Armenian legislature stressed that solely politicians from both countries can decide on the agenda of bilateral relations.

Mirzoyan said ensuring security in the region—and in the world, in general—is one of the important domains of cooperation.

“We [Armenia] are against the resolution of conflicts by military means,” the NA president stressed. “And we favor Russia’s line of peaceful settlement [of conflicts].”

In his view, the interparliamentary commission is an effective tool for cooperation. In this connection, he proposed to form its new agenda, especially highlighting the military cooperation with Russia.

As per Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia and Russia also have an “apparent untapped potential” in interregional cooperation.
