Armenia remains faithful to the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict’s solely pacific settlement taking into account the realities created in the region, and based on the fundamental principles of international law.

President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, stated the aforesaid in Moscow, speaking before Russian senators.

“The abovementioned humanitarian component becomes even more urgent, especially these days when Armenians all over the world remember the victims of the sinister Sumgait pogrom that took place [in Azerbaijan] over thirty years ago, and became the starting point of the pogroms against Armenians [in Azerbaijan], starting the policy of large-scale ethnic cleansing [in this country],” Mirzoyan said, in particular, in his address. “Armenia remains faithful to a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict (…). In this context, I would like to stress that we [Armenia] highly appreciate the Russian Federation’s role as a co-chairing country of the [OSCE] Minsk Group [which works toward resolving this conflict].

“[But] literally yesterday, some of our Russian colleagues have become participants in a strongly expressed anti-Armenian action that was held in [Azerbaijan’s capital city of] Baku, and was aimed at the disruption of sustainable peace and stability in the region. Moreover, the Russian-Armenian Inter-Parliamentary Commission members’ participation in that event generates a justified bewilderment.”
